For independent commission artists

The Artist'sCommand Center

CommsOpen gives commission artists one place for the client, the work, the payment, the deadline, and the details that otherwise disappear into spreadsheets and message history.

Note

Keep the fern detail from the second reference. Final approval will happen in Discord.

01 / The reality

The work is creative. Keeping track of it usually is not.

A commission starts in a Discord message. The reference arrives in a different thread. Payment happens somewhere else. The deadline goes on a calendar, if you remember to put it there.

Then the spreadsheet becomes the only place trying to remember the whole story. That client's second username, the fee on their payment, and the note they sent three weeks ago should not require four tabs to reconstruct.

02 / The central workspace

The surrounding details belong together.

CommsOpen is not another place where the conversation has to happen. It is where the useful context from all those conversations can finally stay connected.

A / COMMISSIONS

See the work from inquiry through completion.

Status, priority, due date, pricing, notes, labels, and what needs to happen next live with the commission instead of in your memory.

B / CLIENTS

Remember the person behind the username.

Keep platform identities, contact preferences, history, referrals, and the details that make repeat work feel like an ongoing relationship.

C / PRODUCTS

Stop reconstructing the same offer.

The work you offer, how it is priced, and what turnaround usually looks like should be ready when the next request arrives.

03 / Fast by design

Keeping it current should be faster than maintaining the spreadsheet it replaces.

Quick creation, sensible defaults, and forms that do not make you leave the flow are part of the product, not polish saved for later.

04 / The relationship

People, not rows in a spreadsheet.

The same person might find you on VGen, message from Discord, return months later under a different handle, or send a friend your way. CommsOpen keeps that history attached to a person instead of scattering it across transactions.

A preferred name. The way they like to be contacted. The commission they came back for. The referral you want to remember.

Useful context, kept with care.

Money

Know what the commission was worth after the fees.

Record pricing, payments, processor fees, expenses, tips, and refunds. The goal is a clearer view of the business around your art, not to turn CommsOpen into accounting software.

Time and workload

A full queue is more than a revenue number.

Deadlines, calendar context, and time spent help show what your workload actually feels like and whether another commission has somewhere honest to fit.

More than one place online

One artist can have more than one name, profile, and corner of the internet.

Artist profiles give those identities and platform links a sensible home. CommsOpen is being built to grow with artists who work across multiple profiles or alongside a small team, without making a solo artist feel like a company department.

Useful knowledge belongs here too.

The documentation should eventually help with the practice of running commissions, not only explain which button to press.

Analytics should answer a real question.

Where clients found you, which work takes the most time, and what remains after fees matter more than charts for their own sake.

05 / Why this exists

Commission work has its own shape. Its tools should understand it.

Traditional CRMs are built around companies selling to leads. Project tools understand tasks, but not the client, payment, product, and artist identity around a commission.

A spreadsheet can track almost anything, as long as you are willing to design the system, maintain it, and keep teaching it what your work means.

CommsOpen exists because managing art commissions stopped being simple enough for a spreadsheet, but never started looking like corporate sales.

Your art already has a process. Your tools should understand it.

CommsOpen is being built for the parts of commission work that happen around the canvas.
